Honey Badger

Character history/background

Isra doesn’t remember life before the school.  All she knows are the cages and the White Coats and their tests.  It bothers her, and that’s why she winds up escaping.  That, and, well, Honey Badger does what it wants.  Beyond this, I don’t know much about Isra’s history.  Is this enough?

Character personality and traits

Isra is quiet, because there’s something wrong with her voice-box and she can’t speak properly.  She makes honey-badger noises instead.  Her teeth aren’t particularly good either.  But she knows a lot – she’s very observant, and when she decides she wants something, she’ll go after it right away, and she won’t let anyone stop her.  She’s irritable and doesn’t usually bother with making herself totally understood – she figures her actions should speak for themselves, since her voice can’t.  She’s also only barely literate, having been one of the mutants who never really did what the White Coats wanted.  Also, she’s quite young when she escapes – only sixteen.

Roleplay sample - must be in the character you are applying for and at least 2 or more paras long

Honey Badger does what it wants.

Those words, spoken by a pretty White Coat with blue eyes, reverberated through her head as she moved through the forest, dirt under her feet.

Honey Badger does what it wants.

She could smell the clean of the School on her skin, and she was not going to go back there, but the Erasers would have her scent, too.  They would find her by the bleach and the ugliness of her smell.  She gritted her teeth, not wincing when they shifted wrong, and through herself into the dirt.  She rolled, and rolled, and rolled, until she couldn’t smell the clean anymore, only the dirt and the leaves.

She got up again, and took off, searching for safety.

Fuck You, SOPA and PIPA

I'm sorry, but I'm a almost physically ill over this.  So, you know what?  I'm emailing Senator Schumer again, but with only a quote from Voltaire that summarizes exactly how I feel about free speech (I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will die for your right to say it) and a brief statement of how sad I am that he can't even spare one vote, where Voltaire -- and, likely, most of our founding fathers -- would have had none of this horseshit.

So I'll just leave you with this:
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will die for your right to say it.

Any plot of this episode has been overridden by the sexy.  I'm not even going to spoiler this part, because seriously?  All I have to say is: I WANT TO BONE DEAN SO HARD RIGHT NOW.  CAPSLOCK CANNOT EVEN CONVEY HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS MAN RIGHT NOW.  EXPECT FANART TONIGHT.  OR TOMORROW.  BUT PROBABLY TONIGHT.

Art for peskywhistpaw's Journey Story "The Trick Step"

So, yeah, I signed up for this forever ago, but here it is, one of (if not the) last Journey Stories to be posted's art.  peskywhistpaw's The Trick Step is a phenomenal Luna + Pansy + Draco fic where Pansy and Draco get eaten by the titular step, and Luna keeps finding the notes they're sending for help.  Then she gets eaten as well, and the three of them work their way out of the little world within the step.  So, here y'go!

If this is bugging your flist, please comment and I'll put the pic under a cut.

Please excuse me while everything about me is about to completely explode.

So, lots of crap has gone down lately in the realm of fandom.  LOTS OF CRAP.  I've got spoilers from here to doomsday, and all will be placed under the relevant cuts, and I have news on the current fics I'm working on.

But first, I need to show you all something very, very dear to my heart.

It's amazing.  I will admit that I nearly cried when I saw it for the first time, and I kinda freaked out just a little.  I then proceeded to rewatch it about ten times.  I have the song almost memorized.

See, uhm, Tolkien is kind of like the God of Writing to me.  Without his work, I literally would not be a writer.  So if you've ever liked something I've written, you really do have him to thank most of all.  When I was very small, very small indeed, I read the Hobbit and adored it.  It fascinated me with the chapter "Riddles in the Dark," and the Rankin-Bass animated film is one of the tapes that I look back on with total rosy nostalgia, and the Elves of Rivendell and Mirkwood were always beautiful to me.

But it wasn't until I was ten and I read The Lord of the Rings for the first time that I realized what was happening.  Tolkien had created a world that I had unknowingly thrust myself right into the heart of, and by then there was no going back again.

Everything about Middle-Earth felt real and true to me, from the poetry that was peppered throughout the novels and the histories to the figures that populated the world.  It was a world that glowed with life and light and good things triumphing in the end over evil things.  It was deep and real and that curious mix of idealism with the dirt and grime of flawed characters.  It was the kind of world that I could live in and love if given the chance.

Then, that Christmas, my uncle gave me The Silmarillion, and that added another layer to all of it, to everything I already knew about Middle-Earth and the whole of Arda.  That was when I fell in love for the first time, and when I wrote my very first story about the elf I fell in love with.  Yes, my first love was an elf; Maedhros, eldest son of Feanor, the only Noldo to stand aside at the burning of the ships, one-handed warrior with a gaze that sent Orcs fleeing in terror, and a well-shaped beauty with red hair like his mother's.  I wrote thirty pages in a composition notebook long since lost.  It was a bad fanfic of the purest persuasion, and a Mary Sue to boot, but it was lost before it could ever be typed or posted online, and in a lot of ways I'm grateful for that.

After that first time I picked up a pen, I have seldom put one down.  I branched out, fell in love with other fandoms and created my own worlds to people and plot out histories for, searching for another world like Middle-Earth.

I haven't found it yet, but I'll never stop looking 'til I do.

So seeing this trailer for the first time brings me back to who I was a decade ago, and who I was seven years ago, and that's too beautiful for words.  It's a homecoming, a circling back around to the beginning for me, the little girl who convinced her grandmother to sew her a silvery cape to match the Fellowship's Galadriel-given cloaks, who tried to walk as lightly as an elf, and who started writing because she fell in love with a world that she felt she fit into.

Seeing the movie itself will be something akin to a religious experience, I think.  I'll probably cry and fall in love all over again and write fantasy novels and AUs for months -- maybe years, that Tolkien phase lasted through fifth and sixth grade before being usurped by the Naruto phase -- because yeah, I'll be going home.

*looks up at wall of text, breathes* Well, it doesn't look like anything else is going to fit in this post, so I suppose I'm going to leave it at that.

Annnnd the SPN episode posts are back! With a veeeeengeance.

Yes, you can tell I'm excited.  Terrified, but excited.  Given what happened in the last episode, all of my soul is starting to go *poof* and my heart is all *pitterpatter* and I just want Dick Roman dead.  Possibly at Crowley's hands.  This may or may not appear in the third fic in the Of Monsters and Men universe, tentatively titled, aptly, Crowley's Got the Gun.  Blame comment_fic, okay?  Someone brought up that the Colt is in Crowley's possession and prompted the Colt being capable of killing Levis.  I want it so bad, and I'm in the middle of righting appropriate lyrics to the tune of "Janie's Got a Gun" by Aerosmith, 'cause it's just that frickin' awesomesauce, okay?

Anyway, this is episode 7x11, "Adventures in Babysitting" and here are the NOTES:

These notes are at top speed and nearly indecipherable.Collapse )

Okay, now that I've finished the episode, it's time for the Meta:

Impressed Murf is Impressed.Collapse )

So, yeah, that's it for the evening.  There'll be another post later tonight discussing the following: My current Big Bang projects, Sherlock, The Hobbit, and Star Trek 2's casting news.  Until then, ta!

SPN Fic -- Mother Mary

So, uh, y'know how I joined Dystopia BB?  Well, there's kind of a whole universe and a backstory now, and rattyjol posted this prompt: "Supernatural, any, all the angels sing because you're gonna die (Brand New Day, Dr. Horrible)"  A scene from the backstory came surging up, and I figured I'd post it, 'cause, really?  Why not?  It's not part of the BB itself, but it'll help make it understandable when it shows up in...six months.

Anyway, enjoy:

Title: Mother Mary
Fandom: SPN
Genre: Horror/Family
Characters: Mary, Azazel, brief mentions of Sam, Dean, John, Lucifer, Meg, and Michael.
Summary: It wasn't Azazel Mary made a deal with, but he's the one who comes to collect on it.
A/N: In my steampunk AU, Azazel's a fallen angel who was never caught and is a mole in Heaven for Hell.  But that's about it.
